Christ on Stage was created to help Drama Ministries and Church Theatre Groups get new ideas for performing onstage, working more efficiently off stage, and developing better discipleship within the group. Many times a Drama Ministry is set up out of haste, cobbled together with a few theatre people and a many non theatre people. This blog was started for those that find themselves running a drama ministry, There are three main types of people that find themselves in this situation...
Often times you're just the Music Minister and while you're perfectly at home with creating concerts and running a choir you have absolutely no idea what you're doing when it comes to theatre. There is a big misconception out there in most churches that the music ministry and drama ministries are one in the same and can be administrated by the same guy. This far beyong the truth. While there is musical theatre out there not every theatre person is a music person and not every music person is a theatre person. There are different concepts involved. You will find references and guides here to help you navigate into the theatre world with confidence
The other kind of peron is a genuine theatre person. You've gotten a degree in theatre or you were practically born onstage. But you go into a church and try to set your drama ministry like a theatre group and find that the people in your group are completely uninterested in "real theatre" or that some things that the drama group is meant to do doesn't involve just getting onstage and acting out a script (such as human music video, dowel rod ministry, and puppetry). So you can find some things on this blog that give you ideas to go outside your comfort zone with ease.
The other person that gets involved is what I call "The Class Clown" or the "Stage Junkie", These are the people that love being in front of people and may have done some music and theatre but don't know much more than that. But the pastor walks up to you and asks whether or not you can take over the drama ministry. Now you know how to get onstage and act a fool but you don't know how to organize a group of people to do it. Here you'll find references and guides that will give you the know how to manage with gusto.
This blog wasn't meant to have all of the right answers. This blog was meant to have ideas and reerences from all over the performing arts that can be used as a spring board to get you started. There are several books out there that can give you exhaustive information and reference. This blog is more for ideas that get you started on the journey not the beginning, middle, rest stop, end, and souvenir shop of the journey. So come on by every now and then and see what new ideas are bouncing around inside!
